May revolution week

 Hi Children!

How are you today? We hope you are doing great.

We are now in a special week, May Revolution Week. Why is this week so important? Let's find out.

How did May Revolution start?

The revolutionary events began on Friday the 18th of May 1810. It was considered that if there was no King, then there would be no Viceroy and Cisneros would be soon expelled from his position.

The main revolutionary group was made up of:

Nicolas Rodriguez Peña, who would use his house for revolutionary meetings,
Juan José Castelli,
Manuel Belgrano,
Juan José Paso,
Antonio Luis Beruti,
Eustoquio Díaz Velez, J
uan José Viamonte,
Feliciano Antonio Chiclana, and
José Darragueira.

On May 18th, they met at Nicolas Rodriguez Peña's house along with Cornelio Saavedra. In this meeting, they requested a "Cabildo Abierto" to discuss the further steps for the viceroyalty.

On May 19th, after spending the night discussing the future of the nation, Saavedra and Belgrano met with mayor Leyva to ask for the support of the Cabildo of Buenos Aires to open the Cabildo. The wanted to request a "Cabildo abierto" to the king.
If the king said no, they said that the people would do it themselves or they would die trying!

Oh my God, do I try
I try all the time
In this institution

I pray every single day
For revolution"
